Color Combos Galore #226 - Cards Week!

We have a gorgeous Spring color palette this week at Color Combos Galore :

Happy Spring:

I drew inspiration from the color story itself, having pretty much all of the main elements: chickies, flower, eggs. I also had several things with gingham patterns on it, so I incorporated a couple of those, too. There are lots of other elements from the photo that could be used for the bonus challenge...Striped patterned paper (from the lunch box),  a title that starts with the letter 'N' (large N in the background), or even foil/glitter (from the shiny eggs). Those are just some other things that I see...lots of fun ideas this week:)

Grey & White Stripe Scarf Pattern

     My sis-in-law recently got a navy blue pea coat, and I wanted to make a scarf to go with it for her birthday. I thought grey and white would look cute with it.  I looked around a little for a pattern, and didn't find one....so I just made one up, it's pretty simple. I wanted it to be light-weight, and not too bulky.  But, I also wanted it to have a chunky homemade feel to it.  I think I achieved my goal by using worsted weight yarn, and large needles (size 11).  Here is the finished product...

Supply List:

Size 11 needles

Red Heart Yarn - Heather Grey (MC)

Red Heart Yarn - Soft White (CC)

crochet hook (for fringe)

Instructions:

Using MC, cast on 21 stitches

Row 1 : k3, p3 (repeat to end)

Row 2 : p3, k3 (repeat to end)

Row 3 & 4 : Repeat Rows 1 & 2

Row 4-8 :With CC repeat rows 1-4

Repeat rows 1-8 until scarf measures 6 ft. long, bind off, and weave in ends.  Cut some 10 in. strands of both MC, and CC. Using 2 strands of each color, and a crochet hook, put 7 tassels on each end.

Color Combos Galore #224 - Cards Week!

We're getting a little crazy over at Color Combos Galore, and adding some metal accents to our cards this week:

I was going to go with the obvious choice (as usual), and use a key as my focal point...but I didn't have a metal one, just chipboard or stickers. So, I went with the second most obvious choice, and used a tea cup, and just added some metal hardware embellishments.  My card...

It's not mine, I borrowed it from my sis in law, and I am thankful she let me use it....but, poking out all of the negative parts was a huge pain! Color Combos Galore #223!

We're celebrating incredible kids at Color Combos Galore this week, and although I have 5 of them, this color palate seemed masculine to me:

So, I have 3 boys to chose from...and these colors would have made a darling baby boy page.  BUT, I had some excellent photos of Owen to go along with the journaling prompt.

1 Truly, Incredibly, Amazing Kid:

 Owen is very flexible, and is always doing something weird...especially with his joints.  I always ask him if he is going to be a circus performer :)  I'm not going to lie, though...some of the things he does creeps me out quite a bit, but most of it is pretty cool.  This layout highlights a couple of photos I took of him while we were at Grandma's house swimming. He gets out of the pool, and says "Watch, Mom!", and jumps into a hand stand, and even walks a couple of  'steps'. Anyway...

Color Combos Galore #220 & #222! - Cards Week!

We're still doing a bit of catching up over at Color Combos Galore...So, I've got a couple of challenges to share with you today.

Celebrate U

I drew inspiration from the glass with flowers, and used my big 'U' as a vase.  I stamped a canvas looking background first....to make it real subtle, I stamped the image off once on scrap paper, and than stamped it on the piece that I was using.  I then stamped my leaves, and long-stemmed flower images right over it. Finally, I Stamped my 'U' separately, cut it out, and popped it up with dimensional tape before centering it over my leaves and flowers.  Anyway....

Hoo's Cute?

Cute Hats

I used a doily to mat my twisted ribbon flower, and I also twisted some ribbon for my stem. I finished it off with a button center, and stapled on some leaves.
